Maryland-based MOM's Organic Market is the Mid-Atlantic region's premier chain of family owned and operated organic grocery stores. As a business with a “Purpose to protect and restore the environment,” it’s easy to understand why MOM’s began purchasing all of its power from a designated solar farm in Kingsville, Maryland in July 2017, bundled with national solar renewable energy credits.

The power generated by the offsite solar farm will account for 25% of the total power needs of MOM's stores in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. MOM’s 20-year agreement to purchase the output from this new solar farm expanded their renewable energy portfolio, as they were already offsetting over 100% of their energy usage with wind power renewable energy credits.

This innovative Solar Electricity Supply Solution by WGL Energy (WGL Energy Services and WGL Energy Systems) brings the benefits of solar power to businesses like MOM’s without the risk often associated with the maintenance of an on-site solar project. As a co-branded stakeholder of the offsite solar facility, MOM’s supports this renewable energy project in a highly visible and demonstrable way. Because the solar array is offsite, MOM’s can do so without taking on the maintenance of an onsite operation.

Our Solar Electricity Supply Solution includes a 20-year Solar Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA), where small businesses and large commercial customers can lock in a fixed price for their electricity, protecting their businesses from fluctuating energy markets. The balance of their electricity supply will come from a 3-year WGL Energy Electricity Supply Agreement with flexible options thereafter.
