WGL Energy, consisting of WGL Energy Services, Inc. and WGL Energy Systems, Inc., both of which are WGL Holdings, Inc. companies, announced that it has received a 2017 Green Power Leadership Award in the market development category. The annual Green Power Leadership Awards (GPLAs), awarded by the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), honor outstanding achievements by individuals and organizations in promoting green power. WGL Energy Services also received Green Power Leadership Awards in 2011 and 2014.

WGL Energy has been offering customers a growing and diverse portfolio of innovative clean energy solutions for 15 years. In 2016, WGL Energy wind power sales reached over 1.6 million MWh, bringing cumulative wind sales to over 7.5 million MWh. WGL Energy has more than 250 MW of solar under contract across 23 states and the District of Columbia. In FY2016, the solar projects in service generated 181,000 MWh of power, a 52% increase in generation over the previous year.

As a market innovator, WGL Energy engages customers and increases green power sales through new technologies and partnerships. WGL Energy offers commercial and industrial customers its Solar Energy Supply Agreement product, an offsite solar option that allows customers to purchase electricity output from a new solar array. Offsite solar is an innovative solution for large organizations that lack roof or land space and want to support the development of new renewable energy projects.

WGL Energy Services is involved in a partnership with Groundswell, a non-profit collective buying group, to provide 100% wind power to residential customers. In 2016, WGL Energy expanded its affinity partnership network to include several arts and sports networks to increase awareness of renewable power options in a diverse audience. These partnerships give a portion of the proceeds from each member’s renewable energy purchases back to the partnering organization. WGL Energy also offers its commercial customers free access to the Energy Management Platform, an online tool that helps manage their energy usage and identify energy efficiency measures.
