Yards Brewing Company supports city's challenge with purchase of 100% WGES CleanSteps® WindPower

Philadelphia, PA - Harry Warren, President of Washington Gas Energy Services, Inc. (WGES) and Tom Kehoe, Founder of Yards Brewing Company (Yards), today joined Philadelphia and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials to launch the Philadelphia Green Power Community Challenge. Special WGES wind power offers to PECO service territory customers are now available.

Sponsored by the EPA, the Green Power Community Challenge encourages cities, towns and municipalities and their local government, businesses and residents to use green power products, such as wind power, to reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use.

Through September 2012, Philadelphia's residential customers who purchase 50% or 100% WGES CleanSteps® WindPower can save up to ten or five percent, respectively, over PECO's current electricity rates; business customers are also eligible for special WGES CleanSteps® WindPower offers.

"Staying with green power and renewing our 100% WGES CleanSteps® WindPower contract for three years is part of our company philosophy of 'going the extra yard,'" said Yards Owner and Founder Tom Kehoe. "We want to make measurable differences on our environment and thank WGES for making the process easy and affordable. We encourage other Philadelphia businesses and residents to make the switch to wind power and support this Challenge."

Choosing WGES CleanSteps® WindPower is good for both Philadelphia and the environment. Each purchase supports Philadelphia's quest to be the nation's #1 Green Power Community and every 10,000 kWh of WGES CleanSteps® WindPower has the environmental equivalency of taking one car off the road for a full year.

"We commend Yards Brewing Company for their environmental leadership and thank them for signing a new 100% WGES CleanSteps® WindPower agreement as part of this initiative," said Harry Warren, President of Washington Gas Energy Services. "As a leading competitive energy supplier, we are committed to providing customers with options that include green energy products. We look forward to supporting Philadelphia residents and businesses in their efforts to reach their goal."
