Vienna, VA (February 22, 2023) -- WGL Energy, a Mid-Atlantic retail energy provider of natural gas, electricity and renewable options for more than 25 years, announced today it has been chosen to supply an estimated total of 831,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity for the next three years to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). WGL Energy, selected as a result of a competitive bid process, began delivering service to SEPTA in December 2022.
Under the terms of the contract, WGL Energy is delivering electricity supply and services to SEPTA to support a portion of the regional public transit provider's energy requirements, providing approximately 277,000 MWh per year during the three-year period. The electricity will help power the main functions of the one of the largest transit systems in the U.S. that includes rail, buses, trolleys, subways, and a high-speed line, and is used by nearly 4 million people in five counties throughout the Greater Philadelphia area.
"SEPTA is impressed with WGL Energy's offering for electricity, and we are pleased to have them as part of our energy supplier mix," said Leslie S. Richards, General Manager and CEO, SEPTA.
"WGL Energy is proud to have been chosen by SEPTA, the major transit service provider for many Philadelphians and surrounding counties, and we look forward to providing quality service and maintaining a trusted relationship," said Clint Zediak, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for WGL Energy Services. "With a regional sales office in Center City, WGL Energy is dedicated to supporting the energy objectives of our customers like SEPTA, including helping them achieve their budget goals.
